Moxie's shop will be under construction as its products move to a new storefront with a layout that should make it simple to find hoops of many sizes and styles, to suit many needs. While it may be cold outside, the plants in your yard are very much alive under the piles of snow, deep in the roots, doing what they do. It's a time of building and developing, to allow an emergence of energy and vitality in the spring. This is true of humans as well! This is a time to hone our bodies, strengthen our businesses, and get ready to soar by the time the crocuses open their petals to the sun.

A weighted hula hoop?

Heavy hoops, the type found in sporting goods stores, may not be the best for our bodies, especially our spines. A number of people have told me hooping with one of these is painful. Why beat ourselves up? Fitness, or "hoopdance" hoops are a safer choice and offer the benefit of variety in what we're able to do with them. In the absence of specific studies, I've included a link at the end of this post to a hoop maker's commentary on the "weight debate". His beliefs are similar to mine. Plus, a heavy hoop (3lb or heavier)isn't just 3lbs when it's rotating around you. The forces make it significantly more. After you master waist hooping and other beginner hoopdance moves, you may progress to hooping around your neck, shoulders, chest, and legs. You'll be able to move around with the hoop more, and can choose between using a significantly lighter hoop (such as a polypro), or spend a workout doing HoopnoticaFiT moves with a slightly heavier fitness hoop (still not as heavy as the sports models), or a smaller diameter hoop. Or maybe one day you just want the challenge of line dancing with the hoop and want your larger diameter back, for just a bit. It's possible to have it all! Hula hooping, or hoopdance is exercise yes... effective for weight loss or maintenance and also resetting your entire mood and outlook. But we call it fun. Exercise can be a turn-off for some people who envision endless hours going nowhere on a treadmill. So let's just call it play, shall we? The Fairest

One Size Does Not Fit All

The hoop you buy today should be a comfortable fit for you. Avoid buying one that is too small for your ability today. Think about tomorrow, later. The key now is to have fun and success today and you can, with hoop sizes that are available for everyone. 

One size does not fit all. Just because a standard size is 40" or 41", doesn't mean it will work for you. Nor should you fight today with a hoop that is an inch or two small. You shouldn't buy shoes that are too small (I don't care how CUTE they are), so why would you buy a hoop that's too small?
