How are you fueling your body? You love your car, or you like it, or maybe you simply need it to get from point A to point B. Same as your body, correct? Would you put sludge in your gas tank, harming your vehicle and causing it to not run properly or eventually break down? You wouldn't? Does that mean you take better care of a car than you do yourself?
You are your vehicle. What if you consumed less butter, refined sugars and flour, and saturated fats (in butter, cheese, red meat)... and put more fiber, fruit, vegetables and grains into your gas tank. Don't be confused by memories of "Grandma's natural cooking". Sure they didn't have as many additives in food back then, but we know so much more now about what saturated fat does to the body. Clogged arteries begin in childhood. Just because a child needs energy doesn't mean it's safe to eat a lot of saturated fat and red meat. Everyone needs energy, and avoidance of saturated fat is important at any age. Think of it this way. Poison ivy is "natural", but you wouldn't eat that, would you?
Something else to ponder. Who makes your orange juice? An orange, or a soft drink company?
It's March and we're past the promises of a better year. All of those resolutions made in January typically lose their shine by this point. However it's never too late to join a new fitness class, learn a new skill, or take some advice that current research suggests. Small changes over the course of a year can add up to improved health and pounds lost.
You will look back and be surprised, and you will have discovered what the rest of us already know: that you can do it.
